Premarital Counseling
Do you want to set up your relationship for future success in all the parts that come after your wedding day?
Premarital counseling is a specific form of relationship therapy that helps you and your partner to dive in deep on the topics most commonly related to the success of long term relationships.
Many people have feelings of excitement and joy during the engagement period and many also experience feelings of worry, stress, and uncertainty - all of these and more are normal! Premarital counseling can support you in building the solid foundation of your relationship to help carry you through your wedding day and into a marriage that feels full of trust, understanding, and commitment.
Some of the topics most commonly address in premarital counseling include:
Communication patterns
Hopes, expectations, and goals individually and as partners
How to resolve conflict
Ways to talk about challenging topics such as finances, intimacy, and managing relationships with your individual families
Oftentimes, premarital counseling starts with a Prepare/Enrich assessment completed individually and used in our work to reflect on strengths, areas of stress in the relationship, and guide development of the skills necessary to navigate the ups and downs of long term relationships. Premarital counseling typically spans 7-12 sessions occurring 2-4 times per month. If you complete 12 hours of premarital therapy then you are eligible for a reduced fee when applying for your marriage license in the state of Minnesota.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started on making your relationship stronger than ever as you head into this next chapter of life together.
